Day 1 (8 hours)

Mastering Your Morton Skillsphoto-morton-multiple-projects.jpg

Skill Level: Intermediate

Come sharpen your glass cutting skills! In this class the Morton Portable Glass Shop will be featured.  For over 30 years the Morton System has provided hobbyists and professional glass pieces.  A brief portion of class will be dedicated to a discussion on cutting tools available and proper cutting technique, as well as how to easily cut a perfect circle (time permitting).  Many styles of glass cutters will be available in class for participants to sample.

Students will learn how to set up the MPGS for cutting strips, geometric shapes, angles, and how to quickly cut diamonds and triangles from strips and squares.  Experienced glass artists all agree you will benefit greatly by understanding all the MPGS has to offer.  Hands-on cutting and demonstrations will strengthen your Morton Skills.  Using Bullseye Glass, students will create a large geometric piece which we will fuse for you.  This class is ideal for glass fusers as well as stained glass artist.

Students need to bring: Toyo glass cutter, safety glasses, running pliers, miscellaneous other favorite hand tools.

Day 2 & 3

Impressive Images on Glass fossil-vitra-2.jpeg  photo-stamped-mosaic-bowl.jpg

Adding designs to the surface of your glass is easy with the Stamping on Glass and Fossil Vitra techniques. During this workshop students will learn how to apply graphic images onto glass using frit, powdered enamels, Stamping Medium and rubber stamps.  This class will cover the proper techniques for mixing enamels, transferring the enamel onto the rubber stamp and then from the stamp onto the glass.  Students will create multiple stamped pieces that will be fired and incorporated into their class project and/or future projects.  Information on using low and high fire enamels and firing schedules will be discussed in class.  Whether used in jewelry, mosaic pieces, stained glass or large fused pieces, Stamping on Glass will add a unique beauty to your projects.  The Fossil Vitra technique will also be covered in this class.  This technique leaves (no pun intended) beautiful fossil like images on your glass.  There are definite tips and tricks that will make you successful with this technique.  Bullseye Glass will be used in class.  Each member of the class will create a 12" x 12" mosaic bowl and one 6" x 12" Fossil Vitra piece that will be full fused for them.

Students need to bring: Glass cutter, safety glasses, running pliers, miscellaneous other favorite hand tools, apron and a NIOSH 95 approved particulate mask (for use with powdered enamels and micas).  Vogmasks will be available for purchased in class if needed.
